Our Zoo

Messingham Zoo is a family run business. The primary aim is to offer something different to larger zoos and wildlife parks by focussing on close up encounters with smaller, friendlier animals. Education forms a big part of what we want to deliver, teaching about animal care and welfare. The zoo is still being established but the vast majority of animals are now on display. New animal attractions are being added all the time as animals arrive.

SOME OF OUR ANIMALS

For more information on the Animals we look after see our full Meet the Animals Page

SKUNK

Mephitis Mephitis
We have had our skunk Pepe since 2016. He is very friendly.

NORTH AMERICAN RACCOON

Procyon Lotor
We have two raccoons named Houdini and Doyle who are brothers born in 2016.

CRESTED AFRICAN PORCUPINE

Hystrix cristata
Spike is our resident crested porcupine and he has been with us for a few years now. He was born in 2013.

ARCTIC FOX

Vulpes Lagopus
Blizzard is a beautiful arctic fox. Arctic foxes change colour throughout the year from white to grey/brown. This is to help them blend into their surroundings in the wild.
